Yesterday me and Seth headed on down to the conference house to see what insects were a buzzin’, crawlin’, slitherin’, or any other creepy adjective ending in ” in’ “. The firstĀ  goal was to photograph a nest of wrens that actually live in a lamp post near the conference house. Unfortunately they were no where to be found. The day started a bit late at 9am so the sun was already working against us. The insect search being our second goal didn’t last long as the temperature kicked up and the insects wouldn’t stay partially still.

After our insect run we headed on down to low tide to see what was lurking around the tide pools. We spent the time just bird watching and roasting under the hot summer sun.

A very tolerant grasshopper. Thankfully didn’t mind the accidental branch bump. Oops, Sorry.

A Silver Spotted Skipper. Very abundant that morning. Key marking is that ‘silver’ spot. Go figure :-) .

I loved the lighting on this ‘shroom growing out from under the mulch. Much is working perfectly as detritus (dead organic matter) to feed these beautiful and important decomposers.
